How you feel tomorrow starts today.

There are probably a few things you can address right now to improve your well being.

Diet

Mental Health is helped enormously by a balanced and healthy diet. Strangely, when we are below the line we are inclined to eat and drink the things we know we shouldn’t. If you suffer from IBS or any eating disorders, this can greatly affect your state of mind. It is crucial to find out what foods upset your system and to avoid them. Keep a food diary and look into FODMAP Diets. Possibly consider hypnotherapy if you have an eating disorder.

Exercise

When we are below par we also tend to skip fresh air, exercise, seeing friends and family, and doing the things that ordinarily we would enjoy doing. You don’t need to invest a lot of time, money, or effort to get some mood-enhancing endorphins into your system. Upping your heart rate (even better if you can get a bit of a sweat on), stretching, and keeping limber, just for a few minutes a couple of times a day, will improve your spirits and coping mechanisms, especially if you do it to music.

See People and have a Change of Scenery

Arrange to see the people who make you happy. Do something that makes you happy and try, if you can, to avoid the things that get you down. Get outside as much as possible, and talk to your friends and family. Get some quality hugs where possible. (A quality hug needs to last more than 8 seconds for it to have therapeutic qualities.) Try it!

Take a break.

A change is as good as a rest. Focus on the now. Don’t let your mind go into overdrive about what might happen in the future. Think about what is in your power to do now, today. Remember that this feeling or mindset WILL pass. It will. Even if you have given up all hope of ever being above the line, and if changes in circumstances are slower than slow, take some steps now to make improvements, and try to accept what you cannot change.

Get Perspective

Ricky Gervais said “We are on a rock traveling around one of 100 billion stars. Our species is one of over half a billion that has ever existed. Our chances of being born are about one in 400 trillion. You are not special, but you are extremely lucky. Enjoy your amazing life because you will never exist again.” Sometimes life can be really challenging. Changes and tragedies can put hurdles in our path. Some people’s paths are really tough. Other’s are a doddle in comparison. Life is not fair or just. We can get pulled under the line by circumstances; wrong choices; other people; or misfortune. I am not a believer in Karma. Bad things can happen to good, kind people. Good things can happen to bad people.

When things are bad, stress, anxiety, and burnout can lead to depression. Subsequently, our health may be put at risk. It is important to talk to someone with empathy when the pressures of life keep you down.

Get in touch

My aim is to give practical advice and solutions to get you back to a good, healthy mental state as soon as possible. I do not believe in stirring up, or dwelling on, past sad issues (unless they have not been discussed and properly put to rest.) I believe we humans are naturally equipped to get over traumas far faster than we give ourselves credit for. Survivors in life learn to adapt to new circumstances.

Good changes will happen if we think they will!
